Daisuke Yabe
MD, PhD, Professor and Chairman of Departments of Diabetes, Endocrinology and Nutrition, Kyoto University Graduate School of Medicine.

Professor Daisuke Yabe has been investigating the pathophysiology of type 2 diabetes in the Asian population. His research interests include incretin and β-cell biology as well as clinical safety and efficacy of anti-diabetes drugs and medical nutrition therapy in management of type 2 diabetes. He obtained MD from Kyoto University (Japan), and PhD from the University of Texas Southwestern Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences (USA). He serves as Professor and Chairman of Kyoto University Graduate School of Medicine. While Professor Yabe is actively involved in clinical and basic research related to diabetes, he is also dedicated to diabetes care and education as a diabetes specialist. He is an executive board member of the International Diabetes Federation Western Pacific Region, the Asian Association for the Study of Diabetes (AASD) and the Japan Association for Diabetes Education and Care (JADEC); and auditor of the Japan Diabetes Society. He received The Masato Kasuga Award from AASD; The William Cullen Award from JADEC; and the Albireo Award from Japan Society of Metabolism and Clinical Nutrition.

Kamiar Aminian

Kamiar Aminian is Professor with the Institute of Bioengineering and was the Director of the Laboratory of Movement Analysis and Measurement at EPFL. Over the past 30 years, his research has focused on methods for monitoring and analysing human movement under everyday conditions using wearable technologies. He has been particularly interested in the outcome evaluation of treatments for the musculoskeletal system, based on the gait analysis and activity monitoring, technology-based intervention programmes in relation to ageing and movement disorders, and the objective measurement of performance in sport for assistive coaching. He teaches in the fields of physiology and instrumentation, medical devices and biomechanics. He is the author or co-author of more than 600 scientific articles published in journals and presented at international conferences, and holds 14 patents relating to medical devices. AB Maharaj

Professor AB Maharaj is a consultant rheumatologist/physician at Nelson Mandela Academic Hospital, Mthatha, and is a faculty member in the Department of Internal Medicine and Therapeutics at the Faculty of Health Sciences at Walter Sisulu University. He received his undergraduate training at the Institute of Medical Sciences, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi; his postgraduate training was obtained through the College of Physicians of South Africa. He obtained his PhD from the University of Amsterdam, focusing on psoriatic arthritis. Previously, he led the Department of Internal Medicine at PMMH, Nelson R Mandela School of Medicine, University of KwaZulu Natal, Durban, from 2006-2018. Professor Maharaj is actively involved in several international committees, including ASAS, GRAPPA comorbidities committeeLead, ACR/EULAR committee on PMR recommendations, and OMERACT. He serves as the social media editor for Best Practice & Research Clinical Rheumatology (BPRCR) and has received the YK Seedat medal from the College of Physicians of South Africa for his exceptional work in Internal Medicine. With a focus on Spondyloarthritis, he has a strong publication record and is a Fellow of the American College of Rheumatology. Professor Maharaj is on the editorial board of several international peer-reviewed journals and has presented at numerous local and international congresses. In recognition of his contributions to medical science, he was honoured with the UTTAR PRADESH PRAVASI BHARATIYA RATNA AWARD in 2017.

Tan Maw Pin

Dr Tan Maw Pin is a Professor of Geriatric Medicine at University Malaya. After completing her undergraduate medical training at the University of Nottingham and her core medical training at Nottingham City Hospital, Prof Tan obtained a National Training Number in Geriatric Medicine at Newcastle upon Tyne, United Kingdom, where she also undertook two years of full-time research training at the Institute of Ageing and Health, Newcastle University. Prof Tan currently chairs the Senior flu subdivision of the Malaysian Influenza Working Group which is advocating for flu prevention among older Malaysians. An avid researcher, she is currently the Principal Investigator of the Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia Long-Term Research Grant Scheme funded project, Transforming CoGnitivE Frailty into Later-life Self-Sufficiency (AGELESS),  and is the current President of the Malaysian Society of Geriatric Medicine and the Honorary General Secretary of the College of Physicians of Malaysia. 

Shahrul Bahyah Binti Kamaruzzaman

Professor Dr Shahrul Bahyah Kamaruzzaman is a Senior Consultant Geriatrician at the Department of Medicine, and Deputy Dean of Postgraduate studies at the Faculty of Medicine, Universiti Malaya in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. She is involved in expanding geriatrics and gerontology into medical curricula in both undergraduate and postgraduate studies; and is well published in the research and clinical areas of frailty, falls, dementia and ageing. All these various clinical, teaching, academic and administrative roles have helped cement her commitment to the development of clinical services, ageing research and medical education in Malaysia.

Padma Sriyani Gunaratne

Dr Padma Sriyani Gunaratne is a Board-certified Neurologist with experience of a specialist in Neurology over 35 years. She has been with a special interest in Geriatric Medicine, particularly on Stroke care and has contributed immensely for the development of these fields as the President, Sri Lanka Medical Association (2021), President, Sri Lankan Association of Geriatric Medicine (2018-2019), member of the Board of Directors of the World Stroke Organization (2008-2015), Executive committee member of the Asia Pacific Stroke Organization (2011-2014), President, Ceylon College of Physicians (2011), President, National Stroke Association of Sri Lanka (2010-2012) and President, Association of Sri Lankan Neurologists (2008). She is the founder of the Stroke Support Organization for Sri Lankans. She led Sri Lanka Stroke Clinical Registry with aegis of the World Stroke Organization, World Federation of Neurology and the Ministry of Health (2015 – 2018) and chaired the committee for the development of the National Guideline for Management of Stroke in Sri Lanka (2023).

Ambarish Pandey

MD, MSCS, FAHA, Associate Professor of Internal Medicine, Divisions of Cardiology and Geriatrics Medical Director, HFpEF Program Texas Health Resources Clinical Scholar Associate Program Director for IM Residency Training. 

Dr. Pandey is an Associate Professor of Cardiology in Internal Medicine at the University of Texas (UT) Southwestern Medical Center, Dallas, Texas. He completed his medical school training at the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi, India, followed by internal medicine residency and cardiology fellowship at UT Southwestern Medical Center. His clinical interests include the prevention and management of heart failure (HF) among older adults. His research interests include cardiovascular aging, frailty, and determinants of physical function, exercise capacity, and quality of life among older individuals with cardiovascular diseases. He is the principal investigator of the Cardiometabolic Research Unit at UT Southwestern, where he leads an independent research program funded by the National Institute of Health, American Heart Association, and industry grants focused on the prevention and management of cardiovascular diseases (CVD), particularly heart failure (HF), among individuals with cardiometabolic risk factors. He has received numerous research awards and published close to 400 peer-reviewed papers and authored several book chapters including the chapter on The Aging Cardiovascular System in the Hazzard’s Geriatric Medicine and Gerontology textbook.

Sanjay Suman

Dr Sanjay Suman is a Consultant Geriatrician and Clinical Director for Elderly Care Services at Medway NHS Foundation Trust in Kent, UK. After completing his primary medical qualification at IMS, BHU he moved to UK in 1996 to pursue higher specialist training in Geriatrics. He was appointed to his current position as Consultant Geriatrician in 2007 and took over management responsibility as Clinical Director in 2015. Dr Suman has special interest frailty, sarcopenia, malnutrition, falls and syncope in the older individuals. He is passionate about improving the reversible components of frailty, such as nutritional status and polypharmacy reduction, contributing to improving clinical outcomes for frail individuals, both in primary and secondary care. In his Clinical Director role, he has established several tailor-made frailty focused assessment pathways such as Acute Frailty Unit, Emergency Access pathway for acute frailty, falls and syncope clinic for elderly. More recently he has led on developing a dedicated Same Day Emergency Care facility for elderly at Medway NHS Foundation Trust. In the community, he has supported development of several services such as Care Home Support services, Geriatricians led MDT meetings in the community. He has been a recipient of Academic Health Sciences Network (Kent, Sussex and Surrey) Leadership and Innovation award for Excellence in Out of Hospital Care category (2017).

Abhay Gupta

Dr Abhaya Gupta trained in India then moved abroad after his postgraduate MD degree. He has extensive experience of managing acute medical and elderly Medicine issues at hospitals in India, Middle East and UK. He is currently working as Consultant Medicine and Care of Elderly since last 20 years at a teaching hospital in United Kingdom. He is a teacher and trainer for junior doctors/ nursing and multidisciplinary team members. He is examiner for Cardiff Medical School . He also is practising Acute Clinical Physician in hospital. He has specialist expertise and experience in Orthogeriatrics. He commenced and leads specialist osteoporosis service at UK hospital. He was a pioneer at commencing Acute Collaborative Orthogeriatrician led Acute Hip Unit since 2011 for patients with Hip Fractures- first of its kind in Wales,UK - a unique award winning service. He is Editorial Board member of ‘Geriatric Medicine’ , reviewer of ‘Age and Ageing’ journals and member of local specialist societies. He has published widely in several peer reviewed journals, presented his research as posters at several national and International meetings and conferences. He has published a book’Measurement scales in Elderly Medicine’. He is member of GOSI (Geriatric Orthopaedic Society of India) and has been invited as speaker at GOSICON conferences held at Chandigarh, Delhi and Aurangabad. His main hobby is helping his Psychiatrist wife in house gardening jobs.
